CHRISTIAN VIEW OF THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION
The Industrial Revolution started in Britain. This Revolution was not sudden, but was a very long time period in which production changed from simple tools used on farms to mass production machines used in factories. The Revolution did not just stay in Britain but soon spread across all the globe.(Ellis, Elisabeth G.)
With all these new great inventions it is easy for man to get caught up in himself because of the great importance they are having on society. This is what many inventors did, they held themselves in high esteem. This is a wrong view to have on yourself, God gives you all your abilities and controls the outcome of them to His great plan.
With the developments we can see God's plan in how the effects benefitted the Church. The development of communication was beneficial for the spreading of the Gospel. In the Bible we are taught that the second coming will not come until all the earth has heard the Word of the Lord. Also the advancement in transportation benefitted the spreading of the gospel with the use in missionaries. These two areas would not have been able to come to where they are if the Industrial Revolution had not occurred.
We are gracious to God for the Industrial revolution, not only because it made our physical life better, but because it also made our spiritual life better and made it possible for our spiritual life to grow. In the Bible it teaches that God uses man for the good of His Church, this is evident with the Industrial Revolution. We must have faith in God that He has His hand in the unfolding of history.
